CSU’s Secor/Prendergast come on strong in final 27 holes to easily make match play in title defense at U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball

Katrina Prendergast and Ellen Secor may have started the stroke-play portion of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball very slowly, but the Colorado State University teammates performed like the 2018 national champions they are in the final 27 holes of the weekend in Jacksonville, Fla.
After playing their first nine holes in 4 over par on Saturday, the two went 9 under for their final 27 holes of stroke play. That included a 123-yard hole-out for eagle by Prendergast on the 17th hole on Saturday to go along with eight birdies and one bogey the rest of the way on the weekend.
The end result was that Prendergast and Secor easily made match play on Sunday by backing up their first-round 72 with a 5-under-par 67. They tied for 11th in stroke play, nine shots behind medalists Faith Choi and Aneka Seumanutafa, both teenagers from Maryland. The 32 teams that made the cut will play their match-play openers on Monday. Prendergast and Secor will face Maria Alejandra Ferrer Alvarez and Maria Paula Ferrer Alvarez of Mexico in the round of 32.
Haley Greb and Jessica Sloot, like Prendergast and Secor CSU teammates, failed to advance to match play as they shot 74-73 and finished 55th in stroke play.
