Former Colorado School of Mines golfer Jertson scores 4th top-10 finish in national PGA Professional Championship and qualifies for PGA Championship

Former Colorado School of Mines golfer Marty Jertson seems to have this national PGA Professional Championship pretty much down pat.
The 2001 CGA Amateur champion, a longtime Arizona resident, posted a top-10 finish at the national event for the fourth time on Wednesday, which is saying something considering the field includes 312 players.
More importantly, those finishes have earned him spots in four PGA Championships, one of the majors in The Big Show.
This time, his top-10 and PGA Championship berth came as the national PPC concluded on Wednesday in Bluffton, S.C., where the top 20 finishers earned spots in the PGA Championship, set for May 16-19 at Bethpage Black in New York.
Jertson (pictured) rallied in the final round to tie for eighth, remarkably similar to his ninth-place showing last year. A director of product development for Ping, Jertson shot a 3-under-par 69 on Wednesday, making four birdies before bogeying the 18th hole.
The 38-year-old checked in with a four-day total of even-par 287, ending up 10 strokes behind champion Alex Beach of Rye, N.Y.
Jertson’s previous top-10s in the national PGA Professional Championship were a fifth in 2011, a seventh in 2012 and the ninth last year.
In Jertson’s previous three appearances at the PGA Championship, he missed the cut in 2011, ’12 and ’18.
