The AJGA Hale Irwin Colorado Junior will be conducted for the fifth time this week — and for the third straight year at Walnut Creek Golf Preserve in Westminster — with players coming from 15 states and three nations to compete.
The 54-hole event will run Tuesday through Thursday (June 4-6) at Walnut Creek, with separate events for boys and girls.
The two Coloradans who have won the tournament — Dillon Stewart of Fort Collins (2018) and Hailey Schalk of Erie (2017) — will be back seeking their second titles.
Stewart, who will play his college golf at Oklahoma State beginning in the fall, won two AJGA titles last year in addition to the Junior America’s Cup championship.
Last month, Schalk became just the third golfer in history to earn three titles in the Colorado girls state high school championships. She has verbally committed to play collegiately at the University of Colorado beginning in the fall of 2020.
In addition to a large contingent of players from Colorado, the event will include competitors from Switzerland and Zambia, and from the following states (besides Colorado): Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and Virginia.
