65 gives Broomfield’s Walker Franklin lead in IMG Junior Worlds; Charlotte Hillary 14th going into final round of Girls Junior PGA

Thursday was certainly a happy day in the Broomfield-based Franklin household.
Mother Kristine Franklin won her second straight CGA women’s senior major championship, capturing the over-50 title in the Match Play at The Club at Ravenna in Littleton.
And son Walker Franklin took the lead — out of a whopping 209-player field — in the boys 15-18 division at the extremely prestigious IMG Academy Junior World Championships in the San Diego area.
Walker Franklin (pictured) backed up a second-round 68 with a stellar 7-under-par 65 at Torrey Pines North to take a one-stroke lead into Friday’s final round.
Franklin made eight birdies and one bogey in round 3, leaving him at 10-under 206 for 54 holes.
Jimmy Zheng of New Zealand holds second place at 207, while Aidric Jose Chan of the Philippines and Connor McKinney of Australia share third at 208.
Meanwhile, at the national Girls Junior PGA Championship, another Coloradan is having a very good showing.
Charlotte Hillary of Cherry Hills Village remained in the top 20 after three rounds in Hartford, Conn. The two-time Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado Tour Championship winner fired a 1-under-par 69 on Thursday, leaving her in a share of 14th place at 3-under 207.
Hillary, who will play her college golf at Northwestern starting in the fall of 2020, made four birdies and three bogeys on Thursday. She trails leader Rose Zhang of Irvine, Calif., by nine.
