Busy week for state’s elite junior golfers includes third JGAC major, the Colorado Junior Match Play

Next week will mark the third major of 2019 on the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado schedule, but the state’s top junior players will be spread all over the country.
Some will be at the national Boys Junior PGA Championship in Hartford, Conn.
Some will be at the Girls Junior Americas Cup in Murietta, Calif.
Some will be at the third and final phase of the Optimist Junior Golf Championships in Miami.
And, of course, some will be at the Colorado Junior Match Play, which is set for Monday through Wednesday at Lake Valley Golf Club in Niwot.
Suffice it to say it’s a busy time for the state’s elite junior golfers.
For those competing in the Junior Match Play, brackets of 32 boys and 27 girls will start action with the round of 32 on Monday, followed by the round of 16 and quarterfinals on Tuesday and the semifinals and final matches on Wednesday.
Earning the top seed in the boys competition was Jackson Klutznick of Denver, who won both the JGAC Tour Championship and the 3A boys state high school titles last fall. University of Denver-bound Connor Jones of Westminster, who has posted top-three finishes in the first two JGAC majors of 2019, is No. 2. Jake Welch of Highlands Ranch, winner of the 2018 Colorado Junior Amateur, is also among the contestants.
On the girls side, 2019 3A state high school champion Caroline Jordaan of Greenwood Village will be the top seed. Jordaan is wrapping up her junior career before beginning her college golf career at DU. Sofia Choi of Littleton is No. 2. Also in the field are two 2019 Drive, Chip & Putt national finalists, Bead Boonta of Centennial and Caitlyn Chin of Greenwood Village.
