Colorado well represented on Golfweek’s list of top residential and resort courses in the country
By Gary Baines – 1/6/2021
The first major golf course rankings of 2021 are out, and a dozen Colorado facilities have been recognized as being among the best in the country.
On New Year’s Day, Golfweek published two nationwide “best of” lists — the top 200 residential courses in the U.S., and the top 200 resort courses in America.
As is often the case with such nationwide course rankings, Colorado has more than its share of representation on the Golfweek lists, with 12 of the state’s facilities in the 400 mentioned. Eight courses from the Centennial State are in the top 200 residential list, which Golfweek defines as “courses within residential developments.” And four Colorado-based courses are in top 200 resort facilities.
Colorado especially excels on the residential end, with two courses in the top 12 — Colorado Golf Club in Parker (No. 5), which hosted the U.S. Mid-Amateur just over a year ago and Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock, which from 1986 through 2006 was home to the PGA Tour’s International. And seven Colorado layouts are in the top 125 on the residential rankings.
The top Colorado courses on Golfweek’s resorts lists are the Fazio Course at Red Sky Ranch & Golf Club in Wolcott (No. 60) and the East Course at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs (No. 77), which has hosted two U.S. Women’s Opens and two U.S. Senior Opens — all since 1995.
Here are the Colorado courses recognized by Golfweek, with the top course overall in the category also noted.
