Sargent (championship flight) and Franklin (senior championship) earn medalist honors for CGA Women’s Match Play

Erin Sargent of Twin Peaks Golf Course, who qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur last week, earned medalist honors and the top seed in the championship flight as the 16-player bracket was set Monday for the 104th CGA Women’s Match Play at The Club at Ravenna in Littleton.
Sargent (pictured), a University of Wyoming golfer who recently finished second for the third straight year at the CGA Women’s Stroke Play, shot a 2-over-par 73 on Monday.
Meanwhile, Kristine Franklin of Colorado National Golf Club, the CGA Women’s Senior Player of the Year in 2018, easily landed the top seed in the senior championship flight. Her 1-over-par 72 was the best in that division by five strokes.
In the open championship, Sargent made five birdies, four bogeys and a triple bogey. Next best in Monday’s stroke-play qualifying were CGA Women’s Stroke Play champion Mary Weinstein (74), her University of Denver teammate Alison Armstrong (74), and former Colorado Women’s Open champion Erin Houtsma (74).
Franklin, winner of the CGA Women’s Senior Stroke Play last year and the runner-up in the Women’s Senior Match Play, carded four birdies and five bogeys on Monday.
Others to break 80 in the senior champioship flight were defending champion Tiffany Maurycy of Cherry Creek Country Club (77), Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Christie Austin of Cherry Hills Country Club (78) and four-time winner and Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Kim Eaton (79).
Match play will begin on Tuesday for all six flights. The championship flight will play two matches on Tuesday, while all the others will start with the quarterfinals. The Match Play will conclude for all the brackets on Thursday, with the championship flight final being a scheduled 36-hole affair.
