Dermonte Bond Joins CGA Staff

Please join us in welcoming Dermonte Bond as one of our newest staff members here at the Colorado Golf Association. Dermonte will serve as a 2020 P.J. Boatwright Communications Intern. He will primally focus on social media, public relations, marketing, and communications for the Colorado Golf Association.

Getting to know Dermonte:

Tell us a little about yourself?

I was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky. I started off at Kentucky Wesleyan College on a football scholarship before transferring to the University of Kentucky after my freshman year. While at UK, I was able to become involved in numerous clubs and organizations during my three years. In the spring of 2019, I became a member of the Epsilon Chi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. I also had the opportunity to be a communication & public relations intern for UK Athletics. I went on to graduate from the University of Kentucky in December of 2019 with my bachelor’s of science degree in communications.

How are you enjoying the state of Colorado?

The state of Colorado is amazing. From the mountain views to all the great things that this state has to offer. There are tons of things to do here and a lot of great places to visit. I look forward to being able to explore the state of Colorado during this internship.

What interests you about the game of golf?

I am extremely new to the game of golf. I have only had the opportunity to play once and it was one of the most challenging things I have ever done. I am excited about the opportunity to increase my knowledge of the game and to become a better golfer during this time. 

Why did you decide to become an intern at the CGA?

I decided to accept this internship to gain valuable experience in the sports communications industry. I believe this internship will better prepare me for my future and equip me with the necessary skills to become successful in this field. It is also a great opportunity to network with professionals across many industries and to gain advice and knowledge from them.

What are you most excited about this internship?

I am excited about a few things, honestly. One, being able to continue to work in the sports industry and being able to learn from professionals within the industry. Secondly, just being able to live and experience life outside of the state of Kentucky for once.

After a month with CGA, how would you assess the culture here?

The culture has been great. From the beginning stages of the hiring process to now, it has been amazing. Everyone has an open-door policy where if you have any questions or need anything, they are here for you. I definitely made the right decision by accepting this position.

At the end of this internship, what did you wish to have accomplished?

By the end of this internship, I wish to have gained all of the necessary skills needed to be a successful person in the sports communication industry. At the same time, I wish to earn a full-time communications position, either with the CGA or with a professional sports team or organization.
