The CGA Western Chapter Championship certainly draws plenty of competitors from western Colorado, but formidable golfers from all over the state are featured in this weekend’s 104-player field.
The 36-hole event, set for Saturday and Sunday at Tiara Rado Golf Course in Grand Junction, includes separate competitions for open, senior and women’s divisions.
The open competition field includes defending champion Richard Bradsby and three-time CGA Mid-Amateur winner Jon Lindstrom, both from Lakewood Country Club; Sean Thomas and Kyle Pearson of Meridian Golf Club, who finished fourth and 10th, respectively, on Sunday at the CGA Amateur; Jack Hughes of Aspen, a semifinalist in the CGA Match Play; 2019 5A state high school champion Will Kates; and Hunter Swanson, who just finished 18th in the High School Golf National Invitational.
In the senior division (age 54 and older), competing will be past CGA Senior Players of the Year Scott Sullivan, Keith Atkins, David Delich, Sean Forey and Robert Polk, along with Owen Ellis, Thomas Roos, 1994 open division winner Dennis Lucero and CGA board of directors member Frank Wilkinson, who plays out of Tiara Rado.
The eight-player women’s field includes former 5A state high school individual champion Emma Bryant of Green Valley Ranch Golf Club, and Julia Baroth of CommonGround Golf Course, who placed fifth in the 2020 CGA Women’s Stroke Play.
All the divisions will include both gross and net competitions.
